Itinerary of MEKONG DELTA CYCLING 3 DAYS VINH LONG – CANTHO
DAY 1: Saigon – My Tho – Vinh Long
Take a bus drive around 90 minutes out of the busy Saigon, on the highway over the vast green rice fields, passing by the local villages and arrive a little beautiful town named MyTho. Enjoy a boat trip with cruising along the huge Mekong river, with the scenes of fishing port, local houses by the river bank, visiting local fruit orchards with little wondering around, having some seasonal fruits and possibly get some folk music by the family. Further experiencing the initial beauty of Mekong Delta can be taking a sampan along the peaceful canals, sitting in a garden and have some honey tea, or having local food as lunch in a local house with high possibility of getting cup of a house wine by the host.
After lunch, have a rest for a while before being ready for our deep Mekong delta cycling. Follow the narrow dirty roads or small asphalt roads along local villages, going over numerous small bridges, crossing rivers by local ferries, soaking your feeling into rice farms, or just stopping by a village bistro and have talks with local people.
The bike is ended by a boat trip to the Cai Be floating market where you can see a lot of boats for vegetable merchandizing, and for living the whole family. It’s also a great chance for a sunset (if any) on the huge Mekong river from the boat trip.
The boat trip takes you to a local house for an overnight. Enjoy the dinner, the house wine, the hummock, and the hospitability of the host.
DAY 2: Vinh Long – Can Tho
Start your biking from the homestay to a dock where you join the local for a lift to get over the river bank. Continue the Mekong Delta cycling by going deep into villages where roads might be only for bicycles but it’s so peaceful and authentically Vietnamese. Biking along villages with numerous terracotta kilns, small canals with churches, fruit gardens, schools with beautiful faces of children, endless rice fields, etc.
The challenge of the day is to cycle over the suspension bridge over the huge Mekong river to Can Tho city where we stay overnight. Others with more spending on rice fields cycling can have a lift to the hotel.
DAY 3: Can Tho – Saigon
Have a boat ride early in the morning to Cai Rang floating market where true close up to this unique cultural feature should not be missed. You did see this kind of market on the first day; however, the market is most crowded early in the morning as the local come there very early. That’s why the boat trip is also very different.
After the floating market, cruise more into small canals to get more tranquil pictures of peaceful and green nature here. Continue you Mekong delta cycling by cycling across villages along canals and other breathtaking Mekong Delta scenery by backcountry roads.
Have a lunch and going back to Saigon by bus.
